Picture: Christ the Redeemer under construction

This is a picture dating back to 1931, showing the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue under construction. It was next to completion, since it was open on October 12, 1931. Work began on 1922 and the monument is a product of the combined efforts of Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, French engineer Albert Caquot, French sculptor Paul Landowski, and Romanian artist Gheorghe Leonida. In July 7, 2007 it was voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

This particular picture was first find on this link. It appears to be a cut from a larger picture showing an aerial view of the monument on March 24, 1931 by the Military School of Aviation (Escola de Aviação Militar). The original image seems to be stored at G. Ermakoff Publishing Company's image bank. Since said image bank was not properly functioning at this post time (couldn't visualize image file), I found the whole picture on this link through G. Ermakoff's website.

Essa é uma imagem datada de 1931 mostrando a construção do Cristo Redentor. Ela já estava quase completa, uma vez que foi inaugurada no mesmo ano, precisamente em 12 de Outubro de 1931. A construção começou em 1922, sendo o monumento o produto dos esforços conjuntos do engenheiro brasileiro Heitor da Silva Costa, do engenheiro francês Albert Caquot, do escultor francês Paul Landowski e do artista romeno Gheorghe Leonida. Em 7 de Julho de 2007 ele foi votado como uma das Sete Novas Maravilhas do Mundo.

A imagem em particular foi encontrada nesse link. Ela parece ter sido cortada de uma imagem maior, que exibe uma fotografia aérea do Cristo em construção, registrada em 24 de Março de 1931 pela Escola Militar de Aviação. A imagem original parece estar guardada no acervo da Casa Editorial G. Ermakoff. Como o acervo não estava funcionando direito no momento dessa postagem (não exibia a imagem), encontrei a imagem completa aqui, a partir do próprio site da G. Ermakoff.
